Simple Shawl

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Yes, I decided the Llama yarn would indeed become a simple garter stitch shawl with eyelet edges. There's not enough yardage for a real lace shawl and I didn't want a scarf or hat or mittens. I think this will work out nicely though. I have two skeins, about 500 yards. This should be enough for a decent sized shawl. I will just knit until it is big enough or until I run out. The shop where I bought this yarn had a sample made from one skein, too small for my taste, so I bought extra. I can't remember if they said theirs was knit on size 13 or size 15 needles. I'm using size 13. These fat needles feel strange in my hands after months of knitting preemie clothes on small needles, but I'm getting used to it.

Your shawl looks great. I'm sure it will be really nice when finished. I wish I could feel that yarn.

  2. Wow, that's really beautiful! I can't wait to see the shawl when it's done. The garter stitch shows the yarn off really well.

HI I just stumbled upon your Blog last night. Your blog is so peaceful and pleasant; pictures are eye candy. Just wanted to ask a couple of things about your simple shawl. What weight yarn do think you used? Did you knit it on circ.? I have been knitting for 40+years. I have some lace weight yarn that I want to use for an easy mindless knit. Just started knitting shawls last winter and I love doing shawls right now. We live in CT, but will move to Maine in a year or so and i think I need a shawl to wear over my woolen sweaters.
My husband does like to fish at our wilderness "camp" (Maine for cabin). He is not as avid a fisherman as your husband.
Photographs of the sky and sunset, sunrise remind me our our wilderness lake in Maine.
    Thanks, Mary

  6. Mary,

Any weight of yarn will work for this shawl. Just adjust the needle size accordingly (a few sizes larger than recommended for the yarn) and knit until it's the size you want. Remember, the shawl will grow slightly after it is blocked. I think the yarn I used was a DK weight. Thanks for your comments. I have never been to Maine, though my husband is originally from Vermont. Must get there one day.
